Gösta Backlund Landscape Print
£125
This minimalist winter scene by Swedish artist Gösta Backlund depicts a quiet village rendered in stark geometric forms. Dark silhouettes of houses and telegraph poles stand against a pale horizon, while long shadows stretch across the snow like abstract shapes.
Works in graphic media formed an important part of Backlund’s practice, and several of his prints are held in the collection of the Moderna Museet in Stockholm. Like many Scandinavian artists of the mid-twentieth century, he distilled the landscape to its essential elements — simple architecture, subdued light of Nordic seasons, and a strong interplay between positive and negative space.
Published as an edition of 50, this lithograph is signed and numbered by the artist.
