Hand-Knotted Persian Tabriz Rug
A hand-knotted rug from Tabriz in north-west Iran, woven in the classical Persian vase design tradition developed during the Safavid period (16th to early 18th century). The deep indigo field is structured around a central vase from which flowering branches rise symmetrically, framed by a richly detailed red main border with smaller guard borders.
Designs of this kind draw on the imagery of the Persian garden - vases overflowing with flowers representing abundance, growth and cultivated nature. Workshops in Tabriz became known for translating these intricate compositions into finely ordered woven patterns, where dense floral forms unfold with remarkable clarity. For us at Zadi & Zadeh, pieces from our home city carry a special resonance, reflecting a place where craft, culture and everyday life have long been closely intertwined.
With its rich pattern and restrained palette, this rug can provide a counterpoint to the clean lines of contemporary furniture. Lay it beneath a coffee table to define a seating space, or hang it on the wall as a decorative textile.
